Slym3

This artist goes by many names – Hip Hop artist and Record Label Founder Moisa Thembinkosi goes by stage names YBA Slym3; NewAgeTrapMoshoeshoe; Yung Global or simply Slym3. Born in Bloemfontein 051 on the 5th of January 2001, his love for music erupted from a very young age. He says his mother is the reason he decided to join the rap game because she had seen potential in him.

At first he did not his want his mother finding out that he is rapping and using curse words on the streets and so one day his younger brother spilled to his mother that he is in the rap game. Eagerly wanting to know what her reaction would be, expecting that she would disapprove of it; she apparently was fine with the fact that he is doing what he loved – being a rapper.

Having a very supportive mother by his side, she told him that he could leave school and pursue with the rap career but he decided to continue with his school journey and he got his matric. He claims that his mom is his number one fan and he loves her dearly for that.

We have to know the source of motivation and for Slym3, it is the circumstances of his neighbourhood. He is aware of the different situations people get themselves into and the reason he is continuing with the rap game is that he is trying to avoid them. He claims that in his neighbourhood its either you are a drug dealer, junky, a convict or you are inanimate. He says “Hunger & starvation got lot of us acting out of desperation, because not all of us got dreams but it is to put food on the table. I want to change my hood so I’m going to preach until my whole hood becomes a better place for everyone; I can’t do it alone.”

His cousin and his crew are the inspiration towards his rap career. The crew call themselves the BloemBandPantsula and that is where he got the name for his first song song “BloemTraPantsula”. He got their approval to twist their crew name to use as his first song’s title. He says “As I was freestyling in the streets, I didn’t have a studio at the time & Lil Yeezy SA done had released his first song clap clap and got me motivated because he was the youngin from the hood”.

Slym3 understands that not everyone will take interest in this type of music and so he says it is up to the artist to take up the challenges these obstacles pose and use them to grow. As the SFTB Creative Team we loved his statement when he said “You won’t even get the same love from other artists, but the biggest thing is that if you don’t invest in your craft you won’t make it”.

What we can expect from Slym3 is a new project set for 2023, but in the meantime we can expect singles. His latest release is called “Bluem(Bloem) Massacre“ available on SoundCloud, Slikouronlife and Grocafrica.
